Loss Reporting Guide
Many losses are handled more efficiently and favorably when you have taken steps to document both the events causing the loss as well as details about the damaged property. This should be done as soon as possible after a loss.
In The Event Of A Property Loss
- Take all reasonable steps to protect the property from further damage.
- If a crime is involved, contact police immediately and do not disturb physical evidence.
- Report the incident to our office as soon as possible.
- Begin identifying the property that is damaged and document items destroyed or missing.
- Begin compiling repair bills and estimates for the company.
In The Event Of A Liability Loss
- If an accident involves bodily injury, contact emergency medical providers.
- Take precautions to ensure that the scene of the accident is safe.
- Obtain name, address and phone number of injured person.
- If the incident results in property damage, document property damaged, owner of property and extent of damage.
- Gather names, addresses and phone numbers of all witnesses.
- Report the incident to our office as soon as possible.
- If the incident results in serious injury or death, contact our office immediately! If after hours, contact the insurance company emergency reporting number found in the After-Hours Phone Numbers Section of this website.
In the Event of an Automobile Loss
- Take precautions to ensure that the scene of the accident is safe.
- Seek medical assistance, if necessary.
- Report the accident to proper authorities.
- Obtain name, address, phone number of driver(s) involved. Also obtain their insurance company agent’s name and policy number.
- Obtain name, address and phone number(s) of witnesses.
- Be courteous. Cooperate with authorities. Give identifying information to other parties involved. MAKE NO STATEMENTS ABOUT ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY.
- Report the accident to our office as soon as possible.
- If the incident results in serious injury or death, contact our office immediately! If after hours, contact the insurance company emergency reporting number found in the After-Hours Phone Numbers Section of this website.
In The Event of A Workers’ Compensation Loss
- Seek medical assistance, if necessary. Immediately complete and
forward FIRST REPORT OF INJURY to the Workers’ Compensation company to avoid any potential late reporting penalties.
